Vibe with Damon episode #1

These blog issues contain some of my favorite songs that I discover while curating for our playlists at Tsunami Sounds (Pictured above). They'll contain songs within several genres, namely Chillhop, Jazz, Neosoul, and more, but within the same vibe and aesthetic you probably expect from our curation. My goal here is to hopefully introduce new artists & styles to my following; helping to push our niche's sound foward.

Love is The Message: This track didn't come into our submissions, but I discovered it while on a listening tangent. The Jazz artists Yussef Dayes, Alfa Mist are able to play with such virtuosity that I was captivated enough to listen to all 10 minutes of the track. I'll let the crazy atmosphere and  groove speak for itself

Browsing Earth by Cosmonkey & RINZ gives me the stank face more than any song i've heard in a while. I've probably listened to this song over 200+ times whed it dropped haha. The bassline and those synth basses are incredible. Great work.

Flow is a Chillhop track by Kaiyo, and I loved it because of its ethereal, floaty vibe and subtle funky guitars. The piano octave playing, punchy drums and silky reverb is always a great combo. I'm also a sucker for arps, which were on brilliant display here.

Blue Lotus is a beautifully groovy track named 'Blue Lotus' by jiabeats. This whole album is incredibly fire, but I loved this track & album particularly because of the muffled and thick percussion.

Little Lies: The vocal engineering in this track is borderline genius; a brilliant mixture of Kid Cudi-type vibes here with gorgeous songwriting. This surely goes down in my top 5 tracks of the year

Goodbyes: A soulful, Jazzy sound describes this song by Jordan Rakei. Nice harmonized vocals over a groovy beat, but the ending around 4 mins gave me some serious stank faces. I loved it until i heard that, then I adored it.

Lately I've been listening to albums a lot more than singles. I can understand an artists perspective more through them, and they often tell stories or have profound messages & themes. I've shared a screenshot of my recent listenings for this week below. Genre-wise I dived into Jazz & Neosoul, which is very different than my typical taste. I enjoy Jazz but I have never really been a lyrics kind of guy, but lately I've branched out. I ended up in a very dope niche and discovered artists like Yussef Kamaal, Tom Misch, Alfa Mist and ODIE to name a few, who blend R&B and Jazz vibes with funky and swing-y beats. This quest actually inspired the creation of our new sublabel; Twilight Grooves (More info later)

A few weeks ago I also embarked on a quest for some dope Japanese based producers & music. I love their style because it seems to bring a perspective of peace; their appreciation for nature and their environments bleeds into their musical styles. This is one of the reasons I love working with Japanese artists in our label so much. You can check out my findings here. The second screenshot below includes some albums I listened to in this area.
